A note from Tom:

We've found time to do a proper review this week.  Four day holiday weekends are great!

==============================

Dr. Bill, Wes, Stephen, Jerry, Erin & Jeb   Crowd:
CampCampCampCamp
TOM:  Dr. Bill (acoustic, vocals, harmonica), Wes (bass), and Stephen (acoustic) started this fine Open Mic night at The Camp with a classic "All Along The Watchtower" by Hendrix, followed by a nifty original "Gang Way" with lyrics like "It might not be so bad if someone shot you in the head."  Jerry joined on acoustic on covers of "Knockin' On Heaven's Door." and The Animal's "House of the Rising Sun."  Erin joined on acoustic and Jeb on guitar for a wonderful cover of Johnny Cash covering Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt."  Erin says "Take off your pants."  I guess she was thinking about Pajama Party Open Mic Night a few weeks ago.  Dr. Bill says "I love bad chemicals and Erin."  Bob says "Covers are cool."  But, he was wondering where the bad chemicals were.  So was I.

DICK:  Dr. Bill and friends suck!  I want Bad Chemicals!
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY: These folks looked real casual and laid back.  But man, they sound great!

Jeb,   Crowd: CampCampCampCamp
TOM:  Jeb of the Dirty 30's fame began his fantastic gravelly vocals and perfect guitar set with an original "Moving White," a "song about a guy I work with who got busted moving cocaine."  After another original - "Trouble. It Follows Me," he did a great cover of Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right."  After that one song, Jeb played one of my favorite (but very sad) originals "When the Bottle's Gone."  He ended with a Drive By Truckers cover "Never Gonna Change."

DICK:  Jeb sucks!  What is this?  Bob Dylan night?
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY: Jeb looked cool.

Brandon,   Crowd: CampCampCampCamp
TOM:  Brandon returned to The Camp with his excellent acoustic guitar and fucked up vocals.  Brandon's act is truly unique and entertaining as hell.  While he usually performs nameless original tunes with lyrics like "Yaaaghh Ughhh" and "Aaaah," Brandon did a couple of covers as well in response to requests from the crowd.  His version of "Mustang Sally" and "Free Bird" were something else!  Jeb said "That's the first cover of "Mustang Sally" I've heard in Cape that I actually liked."

DICK:  Brandon rocks!  What's up with those lyrics?
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY: Brandon looked a little scruffy tonight.

Leon,   Crowd: CampCampCampCamp
TOM:  "Thug" Leon (acoustic, vocals) & Baxter (ball licker) performed one of the best sets of covers I've heard at The Camp.  His versions of The Ozark Mountain Daredevil's "Fly Away Home," "It'll Shine When It Shines," and "You Make It Right" were most excellent!  I can really relate to the chorus of "It'll Shine When It Shines" -

"Seems like everyone is out, looking for the sun.
Singing rain and pain on he who hesitates.
But it'll shine when it shines.
You might think I'm wasting time.
But I'm just a good old boy that's learned to wait."

Man!  That's deep!  Thug Leon finished with a couple of meaningful covers - George Strait's "Ain't Never Seen No One Like You" and "The Violent Femme's "Dance Motherfucker Dance."

DICK:  Leon sucks!  But, his covers of The Ozark Mountain daredevils rule!
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY: Someone in the crowd said "Twinkle, twinkle little Leon."  What's that thing twinkling on Leon's chin?

Bob,   Crowd: CampCampCampCamp
TOM:  Bob Camp (vocals, acoustic) ended this entertaining evening with some fine covers, including Semisonic's "Closing Time," the Church's "Under the Milky Way," Carole King's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?," Bethany's favorite "Rainy Night in Georgia,"  and Canned Heat's "Let's Work Together,"  with lyrics like

"Together we'll stand
Divided we'll fall
Come on now people
Let's get on the ball
And work together
Come on, come on
Let's work together"

Bob knows how to put on a show!

DICK:  Bob sucks!
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY: As always, Bob looked relaxed in sort of a hippyish kind of way.

The Crowd:
The crowd was a little smaller than usual, probably due to a problem with a key for the front door of The Camp.
