Tuesday 8/02/05 at The Camp

Jeremy  Crowd: DanDanDanDan
TOM:  Jeremy Bratton  http://yermej.dyndns.org started Open Mic night with his cool acoustic and vocal covers of punk songs.   After an "original" cover of Beck's "Asshole," Jeremy did the Talking Heads' "Psychokiller,"  Johnny Cash & Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus," Talking Heads' "Don't Worry About the Government," the White Stripes' "I can tell that We are Gonna Be Friends."  Jeremy's show is getting better every week.
At the end of the night when things were winding down at The Camp, Jeremy returned to the stage for the Oatkast's "Hey, Ya," Johnny Cash/Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt," Willie Nelson/Cindy Lauper's "Time After Time," Simon & Garfunkel's "America," "Only Living Boy in New York," and Beck's "Golden Age."    I don't know how he remembers all of these songs.

DICK:  Jeremy sucks!  It's just not right for Johnny Cash to do a NIN song.  That's too weird.
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY:  Jeremy seemed to truly enjoy playing for the crowd.  He looked right at home on the stage.

Jason   Crowd: DanDanDanDan
TOM:   Jason Ryan, bass player for Prom Night Heroes, brought his fine acoustic and vocal talents to The Camp again with covers of "Pardon Me" by Incubus and a couple of A Perfect Circle tunes "A Stranger" and "3  Libras." Jason is getting the hang of solo performances.  He looked more relaxed than ever.

DICK:  Jason sucks!  Same crappy performance, different night.
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY:  Where's the Gomer Pyle cap?

Dr. Bill  Crowd: DanDanDanDan
TOM:  Dr. Bill brought his accomplished vocal and acoustic skills to The Camp for a solo performance of his original tunes.  He started with a song for his dog "Missy My Dog" and continued with "Blank Pages."  Erin joined Dr. Bill with fine vocals and acoustic guitar and Jason sat in on drums for "Bad Chemicals."  I have no idea why Dr. Bill said "Thanks to all who don't boo."  The crowd loved him.

DICK:  Dr. Bill sucks!  Where were Erin & Jason on the first songs?
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY:  Dr. Bill can put on a show.  He looks like a pro!

Ashley  Crowd: DanDanDanDan
TOM:  Ashley Irwin graced The Camp with her wonderful vocal and acoustic guitar on original songs - "Disconnect," "Come Closer," "Nothing Inside," and "Don't Do This."  It's obvious Ashley has been working hard on the guitar.  She's really good!  If she had the right equipment, she could do vocals, lead guitar, drums and maybe even bass on her original songs.  That would be nifty...  a whole band of Ashleys!

DICK:  Ashley sucks!  I miss her old band - Roadside Memory.
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY:  As always, Ashley looks as good as she sounds.  I wonder where she got that tan?

Bob  Crowd: DanDanDanDan
TOM:  Bob Camp filled some time between performers with a mellow cover of "Under the Milky Way" by the Church.  Brandon sat in on snare.

DICK:  Bob sucks!  This isn't a mosque... er.. I mean church.
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY:  Bob looked good!

Brandon, Doug & Andy  Crowd: DanDanDanDan
TOM:  Brandon Glenn (vocals, acoustic) and Doug (vocals, drums) are a "couple of drunken slut brothers" who know how to put on a show "fueled by alcohol and irreverence!"  Their white boy rap is something you've got to hear to understand.  But, nobody really understood it all, even Brandon, I think.  Andy Dodson joined on a "Wild Thing Jam" that was incredible.  They drifted in and out of The Troggs' lyrics and added some of their own, like "I can't sit down cause sitting down makes me mellow and we can't have that!"

DICK:  Brandon, Doug and Andy suck!  What the hell are they doing?
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY:  It's really hard to look cool behind only a snare.  But, fuzzy headed Doug does!  All had fun.

Liz  Crowd: DanDanDanDan
TOM:  Liz brought her jazzy vocals to The Camp with Bob helping with acoustic guitar.  She sang John Prine's "Angel From Montgomery" with conviction.  "Stormy Monday" gave her a chance to wow the crowd again with her sweet voice.  Liz jams!

DICK:  Liz sucks!  Who the hell plays John Prine any more?
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY:  Liz looked more comfortable doing what she does best (as far as I know) singing jazzy tunes.
Liz

Leon  Crowd: DanDanDanDan
TOM:  Barefoot Leon and Baxter were joined by Brandon on snare for great covers of classics, including Neil Young's "Hey, Hey, My, My," Van Morrison's "Wild Knight," Ringo Starr's "You're Sixteen, You're Beautiful, and You're Mine," and Leon Russell's "Cajun Love Song."  Leon's performance alone is a good enough reason to come to The Camp on Tuesdays.

DICK:  Leon sucks!  I missed his poetry.
Oh.... And, death to America!

HAIRY:  Baxter's eyes are spooky again.  I wonder if he's an alien or something?

The Crowd
Performers had the good fortune to play before a wonderful crowd of mostly musicians who really appreciated the show.  The entire crowd was really supportive.  But, some guy did "boo" at his brother in an effort to make him get mad and throw stuff.  Jason didn't fall for it. :)
Rough crowd?

About closing time, the babe on the next bar stool was starting to look pretty damn sexy!
